The dos and don’ts when applying
- Make sure that your application gives a genuine picture of who you are, write in your own style
- Send a current photograph
- Do not use full length portraits (unless it is explicitly requested by the company)
- Write your application on a computer, unless a handwritten application is specifically requested
- Design your application so that it is appealing and concise
- Use a font that is legible and formal, correct any typos
- Do not leave any time gaps in your curriculum vitae
- Attach copies of your references only in good legible quality
- Use plain quality folders and no plastic sleeves
- Use a large envelope and do not fold your application papers
- Do not send your application as a special delivery or registered mail
- Pay attention to your facial expression and body language during the interview
- Make sure you are well groomed - your clothes should underline your personality. Accessories (bag, glasses and writing utensils etc.) must be neat. Last check before your interview: shoes (still) clean? Hair not unkempt?
- Remember that your clothes should fit in with your future work place and you should feel comfortable in them
- Address your interviewer with his/her name and title
- Be punctual! Check the location on a map beforehand, it is better to be early
- Gather information about the company and ask well directed questions
- Always stay business like.
